On May 8, the 5th Turkish University Students’ Chinese Song Karaoke Competition and Chinese Poetry Recitation Contest was held at Yeditepe University. The event brought together more than 50 students from 10 universities across Türkiye, creating a lively and engaging cultural atmosphere.
Organized to mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Türkiye, the competition provided a platform for students to express themselves through Chinese songs and classical poetry, while strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
The event was organized by the Confucius Institute at Yeditepe University. It attracted participants from leading universities, including Middle East Technical University, Boğaziçi University, Istanbul Okan University, Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, Erciyes University, Ankara Social Sciences University, Ankara University, Istanbul University, and Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University.
Throughout the competition, students demonstrated both their language skills and their appreciation of Chinese culture. Poetry recitations highlighted the richness of the Chinese language, while karaoke performances showcased the expressive power of Chinese music.
Wang Teng, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of China in Istanbul, delivered an opening speech. He emphasized the importance of such events in encouraging Turkish students to learn Chinese and in strengthening the cultural connection between the two countries.
The competition winner, EBRAR CALISKAN (Xinhui) from Istanbul Okan University, noted the growing interest in Chinese language and culture among Turkish students and expressed pride in being part of the event.
At the end of the competition, prizes were awarded to outstanding participants, including first, second, and third place, as well as excellence awards. An “Outstanding Organization” award was also presented.
